No — the Droplet PLUS does not have WiFi connectivity.
The Droplet PLUS is designed for commercial and utility-scale sites where reliable, always-on connectivity is essential. It supports two connection methods:
- Ethernet (wired) — a direct cable connection to a router or network switch. This is the most reliable option and is recommended wherever possible. A wired connection provides consistent, low-latency communication with the SwitchDin server and is not affected by signal interference or environmental factors.
- 4G cellular — using a built-in SIM card slot. This is ideal for remote or outdoor sites where running an Ethernet cable is not practical. The Droplet PLUS has external antenna connectors to help optimise signal strength.
If both Ethernet and 4G are available, the Droplet PLUS will automatically prioritise the Ethernet connection and fall back to cellular if the wired connection is lost.
What about the Droplet ONE?
The residential Droplet ONE does support WiFi, in addition to Ethernet. WiFi was included on the ONE as it is typically installed in homes where running a cable to the router may not be convenient. However, even on the Droplet ONE, a wired Ethernet connection is recommended over WiFi for the best reliability.
Which connection type should I use?
Where you have the choice, Ethernet is always the preferred option. Wired connections are not subject to signal degradation from distance, walls, metal enclosures, or network congestion — all of which can affect WiFi and cellular. If your Droplet PLUS is experiencing connectivity issues on 4G, running an Ethernet cable to the unit is often the most effective fix.
