Stormcloud provides an alerting system to ensure users can be notified about key operational states and changes. There are three distinct types of alerts that can be set:
Each serves a specific purpose and behaves differently in terms of notification logic and trigger conditions. Below is an overview of how each works.
Droplet Offline Alert
A Droplet Offline alert is triggered when a droplet on-site is unable to communicate with Stormcloud. This does NOT necessarily indicate loss of site control, as the droplet typically continues to control the site normally using the local LAN network.
When this alert is triggered, Stormcloud sends two separate emails to a predefined list of users:
Alert Raised – Indicates the droplet has cannot be reached by Stormcloud
Alert Cleared – Indicates the droplet has re-established communication with Stormcloud.
Each email includes the words ‘Raised’ or ‘Cleared’ in the subject line for quick identification. The Droplet ID is listed in both the email subject and the body for context.
Device Offline Alert
A Device Offline alert occurs when a specific device connected to the droplet becomes unreachable. Unlike the Droplet Offline alert, only one email is generated for this event:
Alert Raised – No follow-up email is sent when the issue is resolved.
The subject line of the email will include the word ‘Raised’ and the Device Name alerting the user that the device cannot reach the droplet.
Custom Alerts
Custom Alerts are user-defined email notifications based on logical conditions set within Stormcloud. These conditions are based on real-time data metrics and can be tailored to specific operational requirements.
Like Droplet Offline alerts, two emails are generated:
Alert Raised – When the custom condition is met.
Alert Cleared – When the condition is no longer true.
Custom alerts are more flexible and can be triggered by conditions such as:
Sungrow EMS SOC > X%Sungrow EMS System Operating Status = Yicharging omni-e Available Power < Z
These alerts allow users to proactively monitor and respond to conditions that matter most to their specific use case.
To Set Custom Alerts just follow the steps:
Login into Stormcloud and navigate to the site to set the alert
Click on Alerts on the bottom menu
Select Definitions on the top toggle menu
Click Create
Select Custom in Category and set the logical condition, message and users who will be receiving the email notification.
What is an example of a very most common alert to set up?
A common custom alert could be to trigger an alert if the battery SoC is below 20% for more than 10 minutes.
