If your aim is to have visibility of grid imports/exports to enable export control via the SwitchDin Droplet, you will need to ensure you have meter measurement in place.

Understanding the load and grid meter arrangements
There are three methods of determining total site imports/exports.
Option 1: Set up a grid meter. The meter is monitoring the grid import/export directly on the network side of the retail meter.
Option 2: Set up a grid meter. The meter monitors the grid import/export directly by clamping around both the load active and inverter active on the customer side of the retail meter.
Option 3: Set up a load meter. The meter is monitoring the load. SwitchDin will calculate the total grid import/export using the load meter and the inverter metering: Grid = Load – PV.

How to set up a meter (Example with Eastron)
An Eastron meter is a device that connects over Modbus RTU and thus is a serially connected device. We use an RS485 to usb converter to connect the connect it to the droplet.
You will need to use a RS485 - USB converter.
All converters have a Ground (GND), transfer (A+) and receive (B-).
A+ goes from the converter to pin 5 on the meter. B- goes to pin 6 on the meter. GND does not need to be connected to anything. Once the meter is on and wired up as shown you then need to go to the Stormcloud app and discover the serial device
How to configure the meter in Stormcloud App
Go to the Equipment tab and scroll down to click on Add A Device Connected Via USB Or RS485
Select the port where your device is connected
Browse the list of OEM and select your meter
