This guide shows you how to insert a SIM card into a SwitchDin Edge Controller, or replace the one that is already there. The SIM card lets the Edge Controller connect to the internet over the 4G cellular network.
What you will need
- The SIM card
- A SIM ejector pin (or a straightened paper clip)
- A small Phillips head screwdriver
Where is the SIM card slot?
The 4G SIM card slot is on the front panel of the Edge Controller, labelled SIM, between the PROG port and LED 2.
Step 1: Disconnect power
Unplug the power supply from the Edge Controller before you remove or insert the SIM card.
Step 2: Turn the Edge Controller upside down
We recommend turning the Edge Controller upside down before you remove or insert the SIM card cover. It is much easier to handle the SIM card tray this way, and the SIM card is less likely to fall out.
Step 3: Remove the SIM slot cover
If a SIM card cover is already fitted to the Edge Controller:
- Remove the small screw holding the SIM slot cover in place. Keep it somewhere safe, as you will need it again.
- Push the SIM ejector pin into the small hole next to the SIM slot. The SIM card cover will pop out.
- Pull the SIM card cover (with its tray) the rest of the way out.
New Edge Controller? On a new device the SIM card cover may not be fitted yet. Check the box, and take the SIM card cover out of its packaging.
Step 4: Place the SIM card on the tray
If you are replacing a SIM card, take the old one off the tray first. Then place the new SIM card onto the tray, as shown in the photo below.
Step 5: Insert the SIM card cover
With the Edge Controller still upside down, slide the SIM card cover and tray back into the SIM slot until it sits flush with the case. Then refit the small screw to hold the cover in place.
Step 6: Reconnect power
Turn the Edge Controller the right way up and plug the power supply back in. It will detect the SIM card when it starts up.
