Site Configuration is a new tab in Stormcloud, available for v4 Droplets only. It brings the settings that used to require a support request into one place, so you can finish a site properly before you leave it.
Everything in this tab is optional. Your Droplet is fully installed and sending data as soon as you have claimed it and added your devices. Site Configuration is where you go to fine-tune the site afterwards.
You'll use it to:
- Set a static IP or add a VLAN when the site network isn't plain DHCP
- Put hard safety limits on battery state of charge
- Set an export or import limit for the site
- Tell Stormcloud which meter is measuring the grid, so site totals are correct
- Connect the site to an IEEE 2030.5 server
Note — This tab only appears for v4 Droplets. Classic (v3) Droplets are unaffected and continue to use the existing workflow.
Finding the tab
Open your site in Stormcloud and select Site Configuration in the bottom navigation bar.
The menu down the left side jumps you to each of the five panels.

1. Network Configuration
This panel shows whether the Droplet is online, its public IP, and live status for each interface — Ethernet and cellular — with its IP, MAC and connection state.
Read this before you change anything — the interface names don't match the port labels.

Check this mapping before editing an interface, or you'll configure the wrong port.
Both Ethernet interfaces use DHCP v4 by default. Most sites never need to change this.
Changing an interface
Select an interface to expand it. Under Addressing you have three options:

For Static IP, enter the Address including its prefix (for example 10.16.24.115/24) and the Gateway. Select + ADD if the interface needs more than one address.
Under Advanced Settings you can set DNS servers. Leave this empty to use the network's own defaults — most installs should.
The interface menu
The three dots to the right of each interface give you three actions:
- Disable interface — turn an unused port off
- Reset to default — put the interface back to its factory setting. This is your way back if a change didn't work out.
- Add a VLAN to this interface — the VLAN appears as its own interface named after its parent, so a VLAN with ID 100 on
eth0shows aseth0.100. Remove it from the same menu.
Good to know — If a network change causes the Droplet to lose its connection, it automatically reverts to the previous working configuration after 5 minutes. Stormcloud updates once the Droplet is back online, so a mistake here won't strand the site.
Note — It can take up to a minute for Stormcloud to reflect a Droplet going online or offline. This is normal; wait before assuming a change has failed.
NTP servers
The Droplet uses SwitchDin's default time servers. Add your own only if the site requires it — for example a network that blocks outbound time sync. Servers are tried in order, top first, and you can drag to reorder them.
2. Operational Settings and 3. Static Objectives
These two look similar and sit next to each other, but they do different jobs.
Operational Settings are hard limits. The site enforces them continuously and should never breach them. Use them to protect equipment — for example a Minimum Battery SoC so a battery is never drawn down below a safe level.
Static Objectives are best-effort targets. The site works toward them, but other controls may take priority. Use them for things like a Static Export Limit required by the local network.
The most restrictive limit always wins. What you set here may not end up being the active limit. If a battery has a stricter device-level minimum SoC, or a 2030.5 server sends a tighter export limit, that stricter value applies instead. Setting a limit here doesn't loosen anything set elsewhere.
Each limit is off until you switch it on, so a site with no toggles enabled has no static limits applied.
4. Aggregate Metrics
This panel tells Stormcloud what each device at the site is actually measuring, which is how site-level totals — grid power, PV power, battery power, EV load — get calculated.
Tick the category each device belongs to. The Calculations box underneath shows exactly how each site metric will be worked out from your selections.
Most of the time you don't need to touch this. Inverters and batteries describe their own category, and the first meter added to a site is assumed to be measuring grid import and export — which is correct for the large majority of installs.
Check this panel when:
- The site has more than one meter — confirm the right one is ticked as Grid Power
- A device shows no category at all — its power won't be counted in any site total until you assign one
- The site has unusual wiring and the totals don't look right
Important — Changing a category only affects data from that point forward. Site totals are calculated on the Droplet as data is recorded, so correcting a category will not rewrite history. It's worth getting this right before you leave site.
The Calculations box isn't live — it updates after you save.
5. IEEE 2030.5 Controller
If the site takes part in a network program that uses IEEE 2030.5 (Smart Energy Profile 2.0), enable the client here and choose the destination server from the list.
You don't need to know the technical connection details — selecting the server applies them for you. Only enable this if the site is enrolled in a program that requires it.
Before you leave site
- Devices are added and showing as verified — an unverified device does not send data
- If you changed the network, the Droplet is back Online
- The correct meter is ticked as Grid Power in Aggregate Metrics
- Any limits required by the network operator are set and switched on
