Here are all the options available to connect a device to your SGD

Identify the available ports on the SGD
Important note: your inverter MUST be directly connected to the SGD
If your inverter was already connected to a home router, and listed as a compatible device, your SGD will discover its MAC address on the network when adding a device through the Stormcloud App.
Horizon Power mandates that you physically connect directly your inverter to the SGD. This means Horizon Power can still control your inverter through the SGD even during an Internet outage.
Understand your wiring options
Depending on the inverter brand / model, you can either:
- use a direct Ethernet connection from the SGD to your inverter (RJ45);
- connect an Ethernet cable to one of the USB ports left available on the SGD (use the USB/ETH adaptor);
- build a serial connection from a USB port using a USB/RS485 connector and a set of wires to the 8pin/16pin comms port of the inverter.

Considering Internet connection to the SGD must use USB port #3 (or 4G alternatively), ensure you clearly identify the USB ports 1 and 2 that you can use for wiring an inverter or a meter.
