The SwitchDin PKI service involves several key players with distinct responsibilities:
- SwitchDin: Acts as the primary Service Operator, overseeing the overall operation of the PKI, providing first and second-line technical support, maintaining the CA hierarchy (aligned with IEEE 2030.5), managing the information repository, conducting OEM identity checks, and chairing the Policy Steering Committee.
- DigiCert: Operates the underlying PKI platform, providing third-line technical support and ensuring a reliable and secure platform in accordance with industry best practices.
- DNSPs (Distribution Network Service Providers): Manage registered CER within their networks. Their responsibilities include approving certificate requests related to their network (e.g., DNSP MICA and Utility Server Device certificates) and authorising OEMs (Aggregators and Direct Connect) to request PKI services.
- OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) Aggregators: Manufacture CER and act as a proxy/gateway for a fleet of CER to the DNSP Utility Server. They are responsible for completing OEM Identity Checks and adhering to the obligations in the OEM Certificate Practice Requirements.
- OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) Direct Connect: Manufacture CER that connect directly to the DNSP Utility Server. Similar to Aggregator OEMs, they are responsible for identity checks and adhering to certificate practice requirements.
